Starting from our office, located just a few meters from the Gallery, you will begin a journey to discover Michelangelo’s David, a sculpture entirely carved from marble, standing 5.20 meters tall, created by Michelangelo Buonarroti between 1501 and early 1504.

Considered one of the greatest masterpieces of sculpture in the world, the David is one of the foremost symbols of the Renaissance and one of the most famous representations of Florence and Italy around the world. The sculpture depicts the biblical hero David at the moment he is preparing to face Goliath and has long been regarded as one of the ultimate expressions of the ideal of male beauty in art.

The Gallery also houses one of the world’s most important collections of sculptures associated with Michelangelo. Inside, you will also have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Musical Instruments, admire one of the largest collections of gold-ground paintings, and enter the Hall of the Prisoners (Sala dei Prigioni), where Michelangelo’s celebrated unfinished sculptures are preserved. These works were originally conceived as part of the monumental tomb of Pope Julius II.
